Generous Supporters of the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation

In addition to our Annual Awards Dinner and Silent Auction, the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation receives donations and support throught out the year.

Our largest donation in 2008 was from an anonymous Big Island donor for $100,000 that was dedicated to being used to purchase equipment for the Fire Department immediately. The Donor worked with Laura Mallery-Sayre who coordinated the purchase of equipment based on the needs list provided by Fire Chief Oliveira.

The Malkin’s and the Sayre’s presented a check to Fire Chief Olivera in 2007. The Malkin’s presented at the Awards Ceremony to pay tribute to the dedicated rescue team that supported the Malkin’s through the personal tragedy of losing their son off of Punaluu. The Malkin’s were amazed and grateful for their compassion, understanding, skill and dedication. To see the photo gallery of Gregg Malkin click here.

The Gregg Malkin Memorial Fund hosted a golf tournament in 2008. The tournament was a great success and raised $33,000 which Glenn and Donna Malkin donated to the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation.

In 2008 $17,647 has been used to purchase:

12 Flight Suits

27 sets of Thermal Wear

12 Flight Helmets

These items are appreciated by the Hawaii Fire Department and will be used well.

Ironman continued their long-term support this year with a $1,000 contribution. In 2008 they donated a fire-brush truck for the Hawaii County Fire Department through the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation.

The Fairmont Orchid introduced the Foundation to BMC Software, who was holding their corporate meeting at the hotel. After a presentation by Laura Mallery-Sayre, BMC chose the Daniel R. Sayre Foundation to donate the proceeds from their charity golf tournament. The total of their contribution was $12,500.
